Product Description
The S58B30A is a brilliant piece of engineering straight from BMW M division – closed-deck block, twin mono-scroll turbos, Double VANOS, Valvetronic, and 350 bar direct injection all packed into a compact inline-six. For most builds, the factory oiling system handles the job just fine, even well beyond stock power levels.
But when we dropped the S58 into our FXZ34 Pro Z – a Nissan Z chassis that was never designed for this engine – the stock oil pan and pump simply didn't fit. Instead of working around it with adapters and compromises, we went all in and developed a complete dry sump solution from scratch.
Developed with Dailey Engineering
We partnered with Dailey Engineering – in our opinion, the best in the business when it comes to dry sump technology. Together, we engineered a system purpose-built for the S58, addressing every challenge this modern, electronically complex engine throws at you.
The core design principle: the pump mounts directly to the pan. No extra hoses running from the pan to a remotely mounted pump. The pan itself serves as both the oil reservoir and the pump bracket – a cleaner, more compact, more reliable solution.
The Pump
A 5-stage Dailey oil pump with an integrated air/oil separator:
- 3 scavenge stages to pull oil from the pan
- 1 pressure stage to feed the engine
- 1 dedicated turbo scavenge stage for the turbocharger oil return
Why This Matters on the S58
Unlike a classic pushrod V8, the S58 is hydraulically demanding. The VANOS solenoid valves rely on consistent, clean oil at the right pressure to operate the variable cam timing actuators precisely. Get the pressure or volume wrong, and the VANOS system won't play nice – you'll see timing deviations, fault codes, and lost performance, especially at high RPM and boost.
We went through multiple pump configurations before landing on the setup that keeps the VANOS happy, the turbos properly drained, and the bearings fed – all at the same time. This isn't a generic dry sump adapted for the S58. Every parameter was dialed in specifically for this engine.
Proven on Track
This exact system was tested on our FXZ34 Pro Z #001 – a completely stock-internal S58 making over 800 whp. The car ran a full competitive drift season, driven hard by a pro pilot who pushed the engine to its absolute limit, lap after lap.
The result: rock-solid oil pressure through sustained high G-force transitions, aggressive angle entries, and full-throttle runs. No oil starvation. No pressure drops. No compromises.
We confidently rate this system for 1,000+ whp applications, maintaining stable oil pressure under any real-world drift conditions.
What's in the Kit
- 5-Stage Dailey Oil Pump with integrated air/oil separator – pan-mounted, belt-driven
- Billet 2-Piece Oil Pan – CNC-machined from solid aluminum, featuring a built-in oil filter screen and a removable cover for access to internal oil passages
- Billet Main Girdle – CNC-machined reinforcement plate for the main bearing caps, required once the factory oil pump bracket is removed
- Pump Drive Kit – ATI pulley adapter, drive gear, belt, and driven gear for the oil pump
- Starter Motor Bracket – the OEM starter mounting point is lost when the factory pan comes off; this bracket relocates it
- Oil Feed Adapter – ORB-12 threaded adapter for pressurized oil delivery to the block
- Crankcase Ventilation Block-Off Plates – with the dry sump pulling vacuum on the crankcase, the factory PCV system is no longer needed
- Vacuum Regulator Adapter – replaces the oil filler cap location, allowing you to install a vacuum regulator for crankcase pressure control
What You'll Need Additionally
- ATI Super Damper 918573 Harmonic Balancer – required for the pump drive system
- Oil Tank – minimum 2.3-gallon capacity
- Oil Filter Relocation Kit – adapter and filter
- AN Fittings and Hoses – for tank-to-pump supply, pump-to-engine feed, and pump-to-tank return lines
- Oil Catch Can – for oil tank ventilation
Fitment Note
This system was developed around the FXZ34 platform (Nissan Z chassis). Compatibility with other chassis and engine bay configurations should be verified before purchase. In most cases, it will work without issues in other builds, but our sales team will provide you with full 3D models and technical drawings so you can confirm fitment for your specific project.
Who Is This For
This is a race-grade component designed for custom and competition builds. If you're running the S58 in a non-standard application – whether it's a drift car, time attack build, or any other motorsport project – and you need a proven dry sump solution that was engineered with real track data, not guesswork, this is it.
This system is not intended for street cars or stock vehicles. It is designed for builders and engineers who understand dry sump operation and maintenance. We strongly recommend consulting with your engine builder or race engineer to evaluate whether a dry sump conversion is the right move for your project.
